minkakelly Like everyone else quarantined at home perusing what to watch next on Netflix I came across “Tiger King” and was instantly hooked.
The most shocking part to me, though, wasn’t the eccentric characters or the sensationalism —
it was the missed opportunity to tell the story of the real issue: big cats in captivity.
These beautiful creatures face lifetimes of pain and suffering. We are the cause, and can be the solution.
If you care to read more on my feelings about this I added a swipe up to a little something I wrote in my stories if you’re interested.
Stay safe everyone.
Sending love and gratitude to all.

minkakelly This beautiful human commutes back and forth from Burbank to Tijuana to run @yeswecanwf that she created so migrant children aren’t sitting around all day every day lacking the mental and emotional stimulation they need in order to thrive and grow. In order for them to adapt to a new and foreign environment providing that they’ll eventually make it into the U.S.
Along with a therapist who helps them understand and be able to communicate their feelings around their new circumstance, there are three teachers, accredited in Mexico, who have experience working with displaced children in Latin America and is working to bring on a fourth teacher who speaks two indigenous languages, in addition to Spanish and English.
Thousands of migrant families find themselves with no other choice than to leave their home countries on a daily bases, not only in search for a better quality of life, but most often due to persecution, poverty, and extreme violence.
Most of the children are from families that are stuck in limbo in Tijuana for weeks or months as they inch higher on a long wait list to apply for asylum in the United States.
If the program can secure enough funding, she wants to build 2 more buses to expand to Ciudad Juarez and Mexicali, other border cities with surging migrant populations.
To say that @estefaniarebellon is a hero of mine would be an understatement. I am so inspired by her heart and passion for giving back to these babies that she sees herself in once upon a time when she migrated at 10 years old with her parents from from Columbia to Miami.
It costs 65K to buy and renovate a bus, and 140K to run it for a year. @thisisabouthumanity has raised 40K so far.
These kids didn’t ask for this circumstance. They deserve a chance at a better life and all the love, nourishment and support we can offer them.
If you feel so inclined please visit @yeswecanwf or @thisisabouthumanity to make a donation.
Even $5 will do.
Thank you for reading this very long message.

minkakelly Such a special night last night.
Thank you @fashionscholarshipfund for honoring me and @livefashionable.
When you’re in a room like that, celebrating a new generation of trailblazers, you get a glimpse of what could be our collective future.
If we come together to build it.
I loved getting to talk about what we want to bring into the world as our contribution. How will we carry the values of joy and confidence and empowerment and equality and love forward in our work and in our working styles.
I think that love is the most natural emotion in life.
It's the most euphoric, ecstatic, overwhelming joy one can ever experience.
I don’t believe it should be earned I believe it should be freely given.
Let’s lead with love.

minkakelly If you’re in Albuquerque and you’re wondering where to find the best New Mexican, Spanish food please do yourself a favor and visit Kathy.
I’m not just saying that because I grew up eating her food or that she was like a daughter to my grandfather and he taught her everything he knew or that the best taco meat in the world is his very special recipe. It’s just simply the best and I’ve waited way too long (15 years) to come home and taste it again.
It was exactly the way I remembered it.
The tamales, tacos, taco burgers, the meat sopapillas - all with green chile - and of the course the plain sopapillas with honey are just a few of my favorites.
I miss it already.
❤️💚
minkakelly Mom (on the left) and her best friend Claudia.
The cutest. Found the fun in anything.
The biggest most beautiful heart.
She would be 63 today.
Happy Birthday momma.

minkakelly 13 (wow) years ago tonight @pberg44 changed my life. I was living out of a suitcase in my girlfriends apartment when I got the call that I’d be moving to Austin.
I called the surgery center where I worked as a scrub nurse and told them I’d be leaving for some football show in Texas but I’ll see you guys again as soon as I’m back.
There was no way a show about football - that was already a movie - about a player who breaks his neck in the pilot episode is going anywhere but a job is a job amirite!
But it wasn’t about football.
It was about relationships, family, humanity, love and loss.
It was about longing to fit in and wanting to get out.
It was about life in a small town and how a community comes together in good times and bad.
Little did I know I hit the proverbial jackpot and the show would go on for 5 years.
I’m forever grateful.
Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose.
Texas Forever. 🤘🏼
minkakelly Just wrapped our brilliant DP @borismojsovski’s directorial debut episode and I can’t wait to see it. Gonna be a fun one.
You killed it, Boris.
Bravo. ❤️
Is anyone else excited for season 2?
@dcutitans @thedcuniverse Sept 6th.
Ps: @alanritchson is also apparently a photographer now.
minkakelly Happy Birthday, @yutsai88!
The master teacher of how to take a sexy photo. I’ll never forget how nervous I was and how hard you worked at making me feel empowered and comfortable in my skin.
❤️🎂
(this was a long time ago!)
minkakelly 13th and final episode of the season is streaming now @dcutitans @thedcuniverse
I’m so grateful to be on this ride with this incredibly talented team of storytellers I get to work with.
I’m also very grateful for the lifelong friendships I’ve made along the way.
See you for season 3 in 2020.

minkakelly This new line of jewelry is called The Barbara Collection, designed by yours truly. Barbara was one of the first jewelry makers at ABLE. She taught me how to make jewelry, and we actually co-designed a (Double V) ring together a couple years ago. When I was thinking about a name for this collection I wanted something that honors all the women we work with, and I thought back to Barbara.
She’s overcome so much with addiction yet always exudes such strength, positivity and so much love. She’s now pursuing a bachelors degree in psychology are you kidding me no big deal. Working with her is inspiring to say the least because her past so clearly does not define her future.
It doesn’t for any one of us.
She is a reminder that who we are in any moment does not define us as a whole.
I remember when the jewelry team was just a handful of women, and now there are more than 20 jewelers making everything by hand.
Designing allows me to continue to work alongside women in need of opportunity while helping to create jobs for them all with stories of transformation of their own.
I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I do.
