lyle_lovett For all of you who tried to come to our shows in April and May, John Hiatt, @john_hiatt_music, and I will get together online this Friday, May 29, at 9 p.m. Eastern, to take turns playing songs. Please join us. Michael Wilson, @micartwil, took this picture.
lyle_lovett Sweet Pea Atkinson was family. Don Was introduced us in 1991 when Don produced a version of “You Can’t Resist It” for the movie Switch and Don asked Sweet Pea and Sir Harry Bowens of Don’s Was (Not Was) and Arnold McCuller to sing harmony. Usually vocalists come into the studio when it’s time to sing and leave just after, but when they finished that day, Sweet Pea stayed just to stay—to listen and to visit. I enjoyed seeing the closeness between him and Don. Sweet Pea, Sir Harry, Arnold, and Willie Greene, Jr., sang on my 1994 release, I Love Everybody, and that’s when Sweet Pea and Sir Harry joined Francine Reed and Willie Greene in our Large Band vocal group. We worked together on and off for years. Sweet Pea sang on all my recordings and had been set to sing on my new recordings as soon as this isolation would allow. July 6, 2019 was the last time I saw Sweet Pea. Paul Reiser invited the band and me to record a new version of his Mad About You theme song in Los Angeles last summer the day we played Thousand Oaks. Don Was produced, the late Ed Cherney engineered, and Sweet Pea sang, along with Sir Harry, Arnold, and Francine. Sweet Pea and Harry came up to Thousand Oaks that night and sat in with us. Being with them onstage felt like being home. That day is a precious memory. Sweet Pea passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020, of a non-Covid-related heart attack. Michael Wilson took these photos for our 1999 release, Live In Texas, and was kind enough to look them up and send them to me this morning. May God comfort Sweet Pea’s family and all of us who loved him. We miss you already, Sweets.
lyle_lovett Congratulations to @mattrollings88 on the release of his solo album Mosaic! I’m so honored Matt invited me to be a part of it. Matt’s first single is our version of the Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer classic, “Accentuate the Positive.” It’s available now at the link in Matt Rollings’ bio. @micartwil took this photo.
lyle_lovett Happy Easter! Orchestra Percussionist Matthew Shetz, @mjshetz, took this on Easter Sunday 2017 at @trinitykleinlutheranchurch, my home church. I’m always honored to sing Dr. Bill Brusick’s arrangements with our choir and orchestra. This year our virtual service features recorded performances from Trinity’s Easter services over the last few years. Please join us at trinityklein.org at 9:30 this morning. May God bless you all in this difficult time.

lyle_lovett Eric Taylor passed away yesterday, 3/9/20. He was my friend. He invited me to sit in with him in 1978 as a way to introduce me to @andersonfairtx, the original-music venue in Houston that is still so important to me, the first place I was able to play a set of my own songs. His friends became my friends; he made me part of his family. Eric let me open shows for him and encouraged me endlessly, giving me confidence in my writing. I pray God comfort his wife, Susan, his children, Nathan and Alex, and all of us who loved and admired him. I’m not sure who took this photo of us singing together at Anderson Fair, but I was glad to see it as I looked online this morning. Bruce Bryant and Jim Barham’s documentary, For the Sake of the Song: The Story of Anderson Fair, features wonderful footage of Eric: http://www.andersonfairthemovie.com/
lyle_lovett Riverwalk Center, @breck_music_, Breckenridge, CO, 3/7/20: This is our home for the last show of our Acoustic Group winter tour. Thank you for being such great audiences for us, for supporting us in person and here on this page. The band and I appreciate you all.
lyle_lovett For my friend @chessdesign, @deadwoodmtngrand, with microphone, 3/6/20: Thanks for your call of encouragement this morning, Charlie. The Acoustic Group and I play the last show of this tour tonight in Breckenridge, CO. I’ll be working on new recordings between now and my tour starting in late April with @john_hiatt_music. I’m proud to be working with @ververecords, shooting for a September release.
lyle_lovett @deadwoodmtngrand, Deadwood, SD, 3/6/20: Thank y’all for a great day in Deadwood. You were a wonderful audience. Thanks for making the Acoustic Group and me feel so at home.
lyle_lovett Cheyenne Civic Center, Cheyenne, WY, 3/5/20: Thank y’all for bringing the Acoustic Group and me to Cheyenne. We loved playing this beautiful hall.

lyle_lovett Thanks to the incredibly kind and gracious @donniewahlberg and to @bluebloods_cbs for having me on their show. It airs tonight on CBS. Photo by @stevesandsnyc, courtesy of Blue Bloods and CBS.

lyle_lovett Stellar action photographer @lizkreutz snapped this of me and my new @sonyalpha A9 II, as I took her picture on our flight to Denver this morning. The Acoustic Group are excited to play @bellyupaspen tonight to start the last week of our tour.
lyle_lovett Thank you all for your kind words about my being in last night’s episode of @bluebloods_cbs. It was fun playing cowboy with the great @donniewahlberg. Thanks @i_biederman1981 for writing the part for me. Photo by @stevesandsnyc, used by permission.
lyle_lovett @bridgestonearenaofficial, Nashville, TN, 1/12/19: It was an honor to be part of @willienelsonofficial’s show and A&E Network taping last weekend. Being backstage was a blast. @jackjohnson asked everyone to sign his guitar. I asked Jack if he’d mind if my friend Colin Nairne took a picture of us together, and @jimmybuffett jumped in. It was a great night and a great way to start the year. Thanks Willie Nelson and Family!

lyle_lovett @mattlankes took this of @chrisstapleton and me just after our set last Saturday, 3/9/19, @c2cfestival in Dublin at @3arenadublin and just before Chris and @morganwithane’s. My band, production crew, and I were honored to work with Chris and Morgan and their stellar crew. Their video crew, @mootv, ran cameras for our set and did a great job for us. I enjoyed meeting and getting to visit with Morgan’s parents, @bopbop.
lyle_lovett Remembering Guy Clark on his birthday: Michael Wilson, @micartwil, took this of Guy and me on a spring morning in 1998 for my album named after Guy’s song, Step Inside This House. Susanna Clark’s painting from Guy’s first album, Old No. 1, hangs behind us. It hung in their house along with Susanna’s paintings that were Willie Nelson’s Stardust album cover and Emmylou Harris’s Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town album cover. Guy and Susanna served Michael and me coffee and a breakfast of pastel-colored eggs from Lyse Moore’s chickens. They made us feel welcome and at home.
